Tour Itinerary:
At 6 a.m we will pick you up at your hotel. We go to the north to Dong Ha town (75km from
Hue) and have breakfast free there. Then we go to Highway 1. There, you visit the Doc Mieu Base and HienLuongBridge. The most interesting place on Highway 1 is the Vinh Moc Tunnel.

Hien Luong BridgeHien Luong Bridge cross over the Ben Hai river is a “historical witness” which suffered the painful wound of national division (after the Geneva Agreement signing 20/6/194) for nearly 20 years and witnessed plentiful cases of sacrifice of people on the both sides of the river for the reunification of the country. Until 1973, it was no longer the boundary but many parents lost their children and never find them again.

Vinh Moc Tunnel just 6km away from the sea and is well-known as an underground village designed to avoid bombardments during the AmInside the Tunnelerican War. The network's total length is nearly 2km, structured into three floors with the first 13m beneath the ground, the second 15m and the third, 23m. The village was built over two years and required approximately 6,000 m³ of earth to be dug out. It is linked to the sea by seven exits, which also function as ventilators, and to a nearby hill by another six. The "underground village" was home to 94 families and included wells to supply water, a meeting room for 60 people, toilets, a maternity ward, an operating theatre, rice stores, switchboards and observation posts. The village featured unique Hoang Cam stoves, named after the general who invented the store to allow for underground cooking without emitting smoke, thus evading the discovery by bombers. As many as 60 children were born in these tunnels. The area underwent tens of thousands of tonnes of bombs by U.S warplanes. It was estimated that local residents endured the equivalent of 500 heavy rockets per day. In 1976, the Ministry of Culture and Information recognised Vinh Moc as national heritage site and included it in a list of especially important historical sites.
        Cua Tung Beach
The Museum of Vinh Moc TunnelVery near to the tunnel is the Museum, here you can see many historical things related to the war and the life of people inside the tunnel.
After discovering the tunnel, we get to Cua Tung Beach, seeing the fishing villagers working. Enjoying the fresh air with the smelt of salt from the sea water.

Finishing the Highway 1, we come back Dong town to have lunch and go to the highway 9. On this Highway, we will see the Rockpile, the
DakrongBridge, Ho Chi Minh Trail, Ethnic minority village (Bru or Van Kieu)-you’ll probably meet women smoking long-stemmed pipes., and the most interesting place: Khe Sanh Combat Base Khe Sanh Combat Base was a United States Marine Corps outpost
Khe Sanhin South Vietnam used during the Vietnam War. The airstrip was built in September 1962. Fighting began there in late April of 1967 known as the "Hill Fights", which later expanded into the 1968 Battle of Khe Sanh. U.S. commanders hoped that the North Vietnamese Army would attempt to repeat their famous victory at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, and the battle ended as a failure for the North Vietnamese Army. The defense of Khe Sanh became one of the largest sieges of the war and commanded heavy international attention in the media one of several climactic phases of the Tet Offensive. On July 5, 1968, Khe Sanh was abandoned, the U.S. Army citing the vulnerability of the base to enemy artillery. However, the closure permitted the 3rd Marine Division toKhe Sanh construct mobile firebase operations along the northern border area. In 1971 Khe Sanh was reactivated by the US Army to support Operation Lam Son 719, the South Vietnamese incursion into Laos. It was abandoned again sometime in 1972. In March 1973, American officials in Saigon reported that North Vietnamese troops had rebuilt the old airstrip at Khe Sanh and were using it for courier flights into the south. Today Khe Sanh Combat Base is a museum where relics of the war are exhibited. Most of the former base is now overgrown by wilderness or coffee and banana plants. However, to this day nothing will grow on the airstrip itself.Come back from HW9, the bus will drop you at about 7 p.m and you finish your exciting tour!

        HIGH WAY 1 & HIGH WAY 9

The Quang Tri Old CitadelIf you take a private car to HW1 or HW9, or both, you have chance to see Quang Tri Old Citadel whicwas built in 1824 by King Minh Mang and used as a military fort under the Nguyen Dynasty. During the French and American wars, they built a prison here to hold the patriots. It got the admiration from the world to the glorious feat of arms and the heroic sacrifices of our soldiers and people for the 81 day and night-fighting for its stand.Being rebuilt with bricks, It based on vauban design (military citadel). It’s the political, military, and economic center of Quang Tri province , and a The Old Citadelmilitary stronghold to protect Hue capital in the north.Quang Tri prison was built right in the citadel, occupied one fourth of its total area. The tree wall extenden by sharp broken glass pieces. In each room of  the prison, there was a long wooden bench with a stocks at the bottom to shackle prisoners. In 1939, the French had built an underground solid prison  to hold the most dangerous and unshaken mined people according to their ideas, many prisoners of this classification are still alive.

Bo De SchoolAn other interesting place in the pritate tour is the Bo De school ( The school of buddihsm). It was considered the national vestige in 1986. It was built 1959 by the Quang Tri Buddihsm Associaton. In 1972, when the fighting between Vietnam and America was happen very fierce, Bo De became on of the most important fighting of Vietnamese people and soldiers. In the 81 days and nights fighting, this place was destroy hardly. Now the remain part is not much but it just like an lively proof witness of the war. At the beginning of 1972, Quang Tri was a life-and-death front for American in the invasion Vietnam war. At the beginning of 1972, after the Ben Hai river, the provisional border has no longer endured the pain of separation.

Dong Ha Market
Then we come to
Dong Ha Town.
It has a large deepwater port, a direct route to Laos via the Lao Bao border gate 80kn to the west, and is likely to be an important hub on the planned trans-Asia highway. It has a decent hotel and is a good centre from which to explore the DMZ in depth. When you come to Dong Ha town, the best thing for you to do is shopping. The goods here is various and very cheap because it’s near Lao Bao Border. After that you continue your tour  in Hw1 and Hw9.
